Twitter censorship: an update

Last week Twitter announced a new policy regarding the censorship of tweets. This policy set off a mixed reaction in the blogosphere and a boycott on Twitter itself. After doing  little more research I have to say that I agree with technosociology‘s post on the subject. This is a good policy insofar as it limits censorship. I’d prefer Twitter not censoring any tweets, but that’s not a realistic approach. Any company like Twitter needs to have a policy in place for legitimate complaints.

Could this be abused? Sure, but I’d like to give Twitter the benefit of the doubt especially considering their track record.

That, and I can’t be the only person who’s intrigued by the idea of cruising through Chillingeffects.org. On that note Twitter has already posted all their DMCA take down notices dating back to 2010.
